Étape 2

Pour la deuxième étape du Tour de Sharjah, le peloton quittait la ville pour s’attaquer aux routes du désert et l’ascension des montagnes environnantes. Avec une première partie dans les vents, les bordures ont séparé le peloton en plusieurs groupes, avant de s’attaquer au relief sous un soleil de plomb sur les 60 dernières kilomètres d’une étape en comptant 136.

Encore une fois, Sky Dive Dubai a fait sa loi en allant chercher les deux premières places de l’étape. Du côté de Norco/Premier Tech, Jean-Michel Lachance a réussi à tirer son épingle du jeu pour aller chercher la 14e position, lui donnant la 15e place au classement cumulatif. Anton Varabei et Étienne Samson se sont longtemps accrochés pour finalement terminer à distance respectable en 35e et 43e positions.

Encore une fois, tous les coureurs de l’équipe ont terminé dans les délais et ont réussi à éviter les nombreuses chutes au sein du peloton.

Demain, ce sera l’étape la plus longue de la course avec 163km. Les forts vents seront toujours au menu, sans oublier l’ascension du jour, cette fois en début d’étape.

Sharjah International Cycling Tour- Stage 2

Stage 2 or the Sharjah International Cycling Tour took the riders out of the city and into the desert and the mountains surrounding the the city. Still facing strong winds, the peloton eventually split in many groups from spending so much time riding the echelon formation before heading to the climbs for the last 60 km disputed under the scorching sun.

Once more, the Sky Dive Dubai team outrageously dominated the stage by placing first and second on the stage. On Norco/Premier Tech’s side, Jean-Michel Lachance took 14th position and climbed up to 15th position in the overall classification. Anton Varabei and Etienne Samson were distanced in the closing kilometers and finally took 35th and 43rd place. All team members finished the stage inside the time cut and avoided the numerous crashes that took place during the stage.

Tomorrow’s stage features the longest distance off the tour, a 163 km stage. Strong winds will again be expected and riders should face some hard climbs in the opening kilometers.
