GP le Nordet
Une course relevée avec de l’élévation

Le soleil était au rendez-vous à l’occasion du GP cycliste Le Nordet à St-Donat. De nombreux invités de marque se sont laissés tenter par la belle température : plus de 20 cyclistes professionnels composaient le peloton de 90 coureurs. La table était donc mise pour une course chaudement disputée, avec au menu 2000 m d’ascension afin de pimenter le tout.
Pas de repos pour les guerriers. Après les premières pentes et 10 km parcourus, un groupe de 7 fuyards prend le large, avec à son bord Simon Ouellet, pourtant spécialiste du sprint ! Environ 1 min 30 sec derrière, le peloton maintenait un rythme soutenu avec des accélérations subites en montée afin d’éprouver les coureurs réussissant à s’accrocher, le tout mené par Guillaume Boivin, champion canadien sur route en titre.
Après 100 km, le peloton était réduit à environ 25 coureurs. 4 Norcos en faisaient partie, alors que Simon a été rejoint après une odyssée à la hauteur de ce dur à cuire. Avec 20 km à faire, une deuxième course était en cours. L’équipe Garneau a pris les commandes et Mathieu Roy a été le meilleur Norco de ce groupe sélect, bon pour une 7e position.
Ce dernier, accompagné de Jean-Simon et Samuel avait réussi à intégrer ce groupe de survivants, après une chasse éprouvante. Mention honorable à David Drouin, qui a su rester aux avant-postes tel une chèvre de montagne en terminant tout juste derrière Mathieu.
Jean-Simon et Samuel ont aidé au maximum leurs deux coéquipiers, avant d’en payer les frais, à 10 km de l’arrivée. Le reste de l’équipe a rallié le fil d’arrivée à l’arraché, signe qu’encore une fois, la cohésion, l’effort et le sacrifice ont été au rendez-vous.

The sun was high in the sky for the GP le Nordet in St-Donat. Many distinguished guests were tempted by the beautiful temperature, with over 20 professional cyclists in a peloton of 90 riders. The table was set for a hotly contested race, with more than 2000 m of ascent on the menu to spice things up.
No rest for the warriors. After the first slopes and 10 km covered, a group of seven fugitives takes off, with on board Simon Ouellet, yet sprint specialist! About 1 min 30 sec behind, the peloton kept apace with sudden accelerations uphill to test riders managing to hang on, all led by Guillaume Boivin, Canadian road champion.
After 100 km, the peloton was reduced to about 25 riders. 4 Norcos were part of it, while Simon was joined after an odyssey up to this tough guy. With 20 km to go, the second race was underway. The Garneau team took control and Mathieu Roy was the best Norco in this select group, good for 7th position.
Accompanied by Jean-Simon and Samuel, they managed to integrate this group of survivors after a grueling chase. Honorable mention to David Drouin, which has remained at the forefront as a mountain goat, finishing just behind Mathieu.
Jean-Simon and Samuel helped the most of their team-mates, before paying the fee, 10 km from the finish. The rest of the team rallied the finish sign that once again, cohesion, effort and sacrifice were at the rendezvous.
